Daniela Schmid and her colleague Axel Theiling embody two sides of the same coin, so to speak, with what they are working to achieve at BMW M. While Daniela is responsible for planning, controlling and optimising vehicles – in her case the BMW M5 –, Axel is on the technical and practical side of product development. He is currently involved in developing the all-electric BMW M high-performance drive of the future. Which makes both Daniela and Axel a part of the highly fascinating transformation that is taking place at BMW M.

Daniela Schmid says that she was fascinated by cars from an early age and has been tinkering with them since she was a teenager. So, it seemed only logical that she should seek a career in car racing. It was one of her big dreams come true. Daniela appreciates that she feels privileged. In 2017, she decided to make a career move and started as a product manager at BMW M - which meant she could continue living out her passion for motorsport in her new job. Another dream came true. Daniela has been working for BMW M since 2017 and is just as enthusiastic today as she was on her first day. The sentiment springing from the racetrack adage ‘After the race is before the race’ also applies to her job. In her day-to-day work at BMW M, Daniela is constantly faced with new challenges that make her job so fascinating and varied.
The future of BMW M offers a great many opportunities. We are working on new technologies that we want to launch.

Axel Theiling is a passionate engineer and triathlete. The mutual topic of both his profession and his personal passion is – pun intended – the drive. That's why Axel sees his work at BMW M as an ideal match, in which his personal and professional strengths complement each other perfectly. His tasks are challenging and varied, but above all they are exciting and meaningful at the same time. Axel and his team are currently working on nothing less than the BMW M electric drive of the future. In doing so, he and his colleagues are not only contributing to automotive progress, but also to the progress of an entire industry.

As Daniela Schmid notes, BMW M is a bit like a big family in which many interests are shared. ‘What characterises our team at BMW M is that everyone is equally crazy about cars,’ says Daniela. In this way, working at BMW M is a bit like driving a BMW M: the product is refined, but always fun.
