Fastest lap on the Nordschleife: BMW M test driver Jörg Weidinger has set a new track record with the BMW M4 CSL. The previous record from the year before was improved by more than two seconds.

Competition, Sport, Lightweight: The BMW M4 CSL represents a highly concentrated showcase for the racing craft of BMW M and its expertise in powertrain and chassis development and lightweight design.
550 hp is developed by the M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder petrol engine of the BMW M4 CSL – which is delivered exclusively with rear-wheel drive for the ultimate performance experience.
M POWER TO THE MAX.
The M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder features superior power delivery and the striking characteristic M sound. The assembly has been further developed and delivers an outstanding 405 kW (550 hp). The lightweight M precision strut in silver-grey serves to stabilise the vehicle and impressively improve the driving dynamics.
The optimum routing of the exhaust system’s pipes and their large cross sections serve to reduce backpressure. The system’s two electrically controlled flaps and bespoke titanium rear silencer additionally enable it to produce a distinctive engine note created especially for the BMW M4 CSL.
2.95 kg/hp is the outstanding power-to-weight ratio of the BMW M4 CSL.
TECHNICAL DETAILS.
Adaptive M suspension.
The Adaptive M suspension comes as a standard and makes it possible to adjust the damper characteristics to suit any given driving situation, increasing driving dynamics and comfort. In addition to the standard COMFORT setting for increased driving comfort, the SPORT programme offers firmer damper settings, and with SPORT+, the vehicle can be used on the race track.
M Carbon ceramic brake.
The M Carbon ceramic brake comes as a standard and responds more directly to braking manoeuvres. As it is sensitive to control, corrosion-free and highly heat-resistant, it wears less than conventional brake systems and, thanks to its weight-optimised design, increases the agility and dynamics of the BMW M4 CSL. Its high-gloss brake calipers in Red with M logo are visible to the outside.
8-speed M Steptronic Sport transmission.
The 8-speed M Steptronic Sport transmission with Drivelogic of the BMW M4 Competition offers numerous shifting options: extremely dynamic, particularly comfortable and smooth aswell as fuel-saving. You can shift manually using the gear lever or the gearshift paddles on the steering wheel, or select one of three automatic programmes using Drivelogic. The drive torque produced by the inline 6-cylinder engine is only relayed to the rear wheels of the BMW M4 CSL.
Integrated M specific braking system.
In addition to saving approximately 2 kg in weight, the integrated M specific braking system of the BMW M4 Competition Coupé and BMW M4 Coupé provides very high braking dynamics and comes as a standard. For a maximum level of individualisation, the driver can choose between “Comfort” and “Sport” brake pedal parameters according to the situation. Depending on the parameters, the response behavior is designed differently. In “Sport” mode, deceleration is higher with the same distance of pedal travel particularly at low speeds while the response of the two parameter settings is very similar at high speeds.
M Drive Professional.
M Drive Professional is specially designed for race tracks. The ten-stage M Traction Control and the M TRACK mode are on board for made-to-order driving experiences. It switches off assistance systems, minimises displays and puts iDrive into idle mode.
