What began as a vintage automobile concours over 70 years ago, has evolved into one of the largest and most iconic shows of the automotive and vintage car world, welcoming close to a 100,000 visitors. 140 kilometres south of San Francisco on the Pacific coast, visitors can choose from a wide range of events including auctions of vehicle legends and one-offs, classic car races on Laguna Seca Raceway and the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance®, the traditional conclusion to this spectacular auto festival. BMW M participated in all three of these events with a selection of exciting vehicles.
A PACIFIC PREMIERE.
The all-new, electrified BMW M5 was at the centre of a wealth of activities for BMW M during Pebble Beach Automotive Week. One of the highlights of the many M highlights at Car Week was the eagerly awaited world premiere of the all-new BMW M5 Touring - the first Touring for almost 15 years. It was unveiled on the grounds of the elegant Pebble Beach Golf Links. Before it was finally uncovered, a parade of BMW M5 models from the six previous generations set the stage for the world premiere of the high-performance Touring. BMW M CEO Franciscus van Meel and former racing driver Justin Bell then presented the new BMW M5 Touring to a cheering audience.
UNIQUE PIECE FOR A GOOD CAUSE.
To celebrate the arrival of the new BMW M5 in North America, BMW M and BMW Individual collaborated together with the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance® to create a unique, special edition vehicle that was auctioned off during Pebble Beach Automotive Week. The 2025 BMW M5 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance #1/1 (meaning one of one) is the first seventh-generation BMW M5 to be handed out in North America. It features exclusive paint and upholstery colours, wheels and custom-tailored interior design details that make this M5 an entirely unique collector’s item.
Pebble Beach was the natural choice for the auction because it is the premier address worldwide for vehicle auctions. Prices in the six- to seven-figure range are not unusual; the highest sum ever achieved was 30 million US dollars. The one-of-a-kind M5 was auctioned off live on the grounds of the renowned auction house Gooding & Company on 17 Mile Drive, a road popular with motorists for its great bends and picturesque views. The auction raised the gratifying sum of $ 313,000. The profits go to the Pebble Beach Company Foundation to help support disadvantaged young people.

CONCOURS D’PERORMANCE.
BMW M has been part of the action in California for years. Monterey Car Week and Pebble Beach Automotive Week are among the most important and exclusive automotive events in the world, much like the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, where BMW M also makes a regular appearance with sensational vehicles in tow. In the past, M GmbH has staged impressive vehicle shows and premieres on the green at the famous venue Pebble Beach Golf Links. For instance, the fascinating futuristic vehicle BMW Vision M Next, the BMW 8 Series and the BMW M4 CSL all had their United States premieres there on the Pacific, with the BMW M5 Touring being the most recent highlight.
DRIVE OF FAME AT LAGUNA SECA.
Every year, there are four days of historic racing with classic race and sports cars held at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. BMW M sends some of its most iconic classics to the bone-dry track for this event.
A classic race of racing classics.
For many, the true kick-off to Monterey Car Week is the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, which some people casually refer to as a car museum revving to life with hundreds of historic and period-correct race and sports cars from nearly every era. Every year, they compete and race around the track at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for four days. Participating vehicles range from classic pre-war models to modern racing cars from the 1970s and 1980s. And these vehicles are put to the test, despite their age. Laguna Seca Raceway is known for its demanding, fast track with challenging curves and elevation changes. From the 1975 3.0 CSL and M1 to the Le Mans victor BMW V12 LMR – M GmbH sends the whole gamut of its motorsport legends to the hot asphalt in California. In 2024, about 550 vehicles came to Laguna Seca for the 50th anniversary of the historic car race.
The all-new M5 at Laguna Seca.
To celebrate the BMW M5’s premiere on the American continent, WeatherTech Raceway was not exclusively reserved for classic sports cars in 2024. The BMW M5 and other more recent M models were allowed to take a few laps in Laguna Seca. BMW M CEO Franciscus van Meel himself sat behind the wheel of the new M5.
